Hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite with radial mesopores: Preparation, formation mechanism and application for

Darui Wang, Hongmin Sun, Wei Liu, Zhenhao Shen, Weimin Yang

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2020, Volume 14, Issue 2,   Pages 248-257 doi: 10.1007/s11705-019-1853-9

Abstract: Hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite with radial mesopores is controllably synthesized using piperidine in a NaOH solution. The piperidine molecules enter the zeolite micropores and protect the zeolite framework from extensive desilication. The areas containing fewer aluminum atoms contain fewer piperidine protectant molecules and so they dissolve first. Small amounts of mesopores are then gradually generated in areas with more aluminum atoms and more piperidine protectant. In this manner, radial mesopores are formed in the ZSM-5 zeolite with a maximal preservation of the micropores and active sites. The optimal hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite, prepared with a molar ratio of piperidine to zeolite of 0.03, had a mesopore surface area of 136 m ·g and a solid yield of 80%. The incorporation of the radial mesopores results in micropores that are interconnected which shortened the average diffusion path length. Compared to the parent zeolite, the hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite possesses more accessible acid sites and has a higher catalytic activity and a longer lifetime for the alkylation of benzene.

The formation and catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles in aqueous polyacrylate solutions

Jie Wang, Jianjia Liu, Xuhong Guo, Liang Yan, Stephen F. Lincoln

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2016, Volume 10, Issue 3,   Pages 432-439 doi: 10.1007/s11705-016-1584-0

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been synthesized in the presence of polyacrylate through the reduction of silver nitrate by sodium borohydride in aqueous solution. The AgNO and polyacrylate carboxylate group concentrations were kept constant at 2.0 × 10 and 1.0 × 10 mol?L , respectively, while the ratio of [NaBH ]/[AgNO ] was varied from 1 to 100. The ultra-violet-visible plasmon resonance spectra of these solutions were found to vary with time prior to stabilizing after 27 d, consistent with changes of AgNP size and distribution within the polyacrylate ensemble occurring. These observations, together with transmission electron microscopic results, show this rearrangement to be greatest among the samples at the lower ratios of [NaBH ]/[AgNO ] used in the preparation, whereas those at the higher ratios showed a more even distribution of smaller AgNP. All ten of the AgNP samples, upon a one thousand-fold dilution, catalyze the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol in the temperature range 283.2–303.2 K with a substantial induction time being observed at the lower temperatures.
